HANAMI launches public consultation on the future of EU–Japan collaboration in HPC
The HANAMI project has published the first version of its Roadmap for Future EU–Japan Collaboration in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and is now inviting researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, HPC users, and stakeholders to help refine it.
Developed within the framework of the EU–Japan Digital Partnership, the roadmap outlines a long-term vision for strengthening collaboration between Europe and Japan in HPC and related fields, such as artificial intelligence, data-intensive computing, and, where relevant, quantum technologies. Its focus is on human-centred, sustainable collaboration: joint scientific activities, shared software and workflows, skills development, and enduring institutional links, rather than on hardware procurement.
As both Europe and Japan continue to invest in next-generation digital technologies, deeper international collaboration is increasingly important to address shared scientific, technological, and societal challenges. The roadmap covers potential collaboration themes and activities in infrastructure development and different scientific domains.
The first iteration of the roadmap has been released, and HANAMI has opened a public consultation process. The consortium is seeking broader input from the European and Japanese research communities to validate its priorities, improve its clarity, and identify any gaps or missing opportunities.
The survey should take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, and is open until 30 June. All responses will be analysed in aggregate and used solely to refine the roadmap and inform future coordination and funding discussions.
