I obtained a BSc (2003) and a MSc (2006) in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. In 2007 I moved to Trieste for a PhD in Structural and Functional Genomics at the International School for Advanced Studies (completed in 2011) and in 2009 then to Germany for a second PhD in Computational Biophysics at the University of Aachen (completed in 2012).

Finally I moved to the UK, where I have been working in the Computational Biology group at Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) for the last 11 years, becoming a Senior Scientist in 2016.

Due to my role, I have always used supercomputers extensively by running heavy simulations and looking for ways to optimise performance. Therefore, I am glad to be a member of the Advisory Committee – I am extremely interested in overseeing the software and hardware developments in the HPC area over the next few years.
