ECMWF
Samuel Hatfield is a Research Scientist in the Computing Department of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.
Samuel holds an MSci degree in Physics from the University of Bristol, obtained in 2014, and a PhD in Environmental Research from the University of Oxford, obtained in 2019. After his PhD, Samuel started at ECMWF where his research has focused on matters relating to the portability, scalability, and optimisation of ECMWF’s weather forecasting model, the IFS, on pre-exascale supercomputers. He has been and is involved with a number of European projects, namely ESiWACE2, DEEP-SEA, and EUPEX, whose goals are closely aligned with HANAMI.
He has also collaborated with climate scientists in Japan to assess the scalability of ECMWF’s systems on the Fugaku supercomputer.
