HANAMI Project has started

It was on a spring day – with the cherry blossoms blooming – that the HANAMI consortium met in Paris for the start of the project that, over three years, will unite Europe and Japan and, through the power of supercomputing, boost development in the areas of Biomedical Sciences, Climate and Weather Modeling, and Materials Science.

In the City of Light, the partners of the new project funded by Euro HPC presented the work they will be doing in their respective scientific areas, revealed the steps that will be taken towards the sustainability of the project and agreed on the objectives and procedures for the realization of what is intended to be a fruitful collaboration with continuity.

The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is the coordinator of the consortium that includes 14 organizations from 9 European countries: Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomutacion (Spain), Cineca Consorzio Unteruniversitario (Italy), National Research Council of Italy (Italy), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (France), CSC – IT Center for Science (Finland), Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany), University of Stuttgart (Germany), Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Spain), Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Deutsche Klimarechenzentrum (Germany) and University of Warsaw (Poland). From the European, there’s also the participation from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

From Japan, HANAMI will be joined by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Kyushu University,  National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), RIKEN, Tokyo Institute of Technology (TITECH), University of Tokyo, University of Tsukuba, University of Hyogo and Yokohama University.
