Code Without Borders: Barcelona hosts CEA-RIKEN Kokkos School
Organized as part of the CEA-RIKEN collaboration, a major two-day training school on the Kokkos C++ Performance Portability Ecosystem took place in Barcelona in January of 2025, bringing together developers and researchers for intensive hands-on training in hardware-agnostic application development.
“We are very interested in evaluating Kokkos in the framework of the Fugaku next project,” said Kento Sato, team leader at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science, underlining the framework’s importance for future high-performance computing (HPC) initiatives.
The workshop was focused on the basic features of Kokkos and was organized jointly with the HANAMI consortium, expanding its reach and strengthening collaboration between European and Japanese scientists.
“Organizing the CEA-RIKEN school alongside the HANAMI symposium has broadened the audience and fostered scientific exchanges,” noted Edouard Audit, deputy director of Maison de la Simulation at CEA and organizer of the CEA-Riken school with Kento Sato.
The attendees from BSC, CSC, Eviden, JSC and RIKEN benefited from the dedicated support of Kokkos developers from the CExA project. The school has strengthened the link between Kokkos users in Europe and Japan.
